About us
Bisham Barn Owl Group (BBOG) was set up in 2014 to monitor and conserve the Barn Owl population in the Middle Thames area.
We advise farmers, land owners and managers on installing owl boxes, which we then monitor as part of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) Nest Recording Scheme. The adult birds and their chicks are ringed under BTO licence enabling each bird to be individually identified and followed throughout its lifetime.
We currently monitor over 200 owl and kestrel boxes, of which half are Barn Owl boxes.
BBOG participates in the BTO "Retrapping Adults for Survival" scheme (RAS). Annual survival data is collected for each individual adult Barn Owl within the area. The results are used to model trends in the UK Barn Owl population. BBOG is one of only four such scheme members.
We work closely with the following organisations:
Bucks Berks & Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT); Christmas Common Farm Cluster; Central Chilterns Farm Cluster; Wild Marlow; National Trust; Woodland Trust; Forestry Commission; Bracknell Forest DC; Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead; Chiltern Rangers; Chiltern Society; and Thames Water.
Through a partnership with the Bisham Nest Box Group (BNBG), we are able to arrange the installation of owl and kestrel boxes at very competitive prices.
Details can be found at BNBG boxes
